THE feature on York's parks by Stephen Lewis with pictures by Paul Baker and Steven Bradshaw August 26) is of special interest to me, because parks have played such a major role in my life.
My first recollection is of feeding ducks in Hull Road Park and neglecting to let go of a piece of bread.
This resulted in a spectacular somersault into the 'lake' and me being fished out by my dad who had waded in.
We were both wearing our best clothes at the time so my mother was not pleased to note our bedraggled appearance on our return home.
Many childhood days were spent in that park, then games of tennis were played throughout teen years - both there and on the courts of Rowntree Park. Walks to West Bank Park with my children followed.
Visits to parks are still on the agenda, in the company of my granddaughters.
Excursions are usually to The Homestead and Museum Gardens. However, I intend re-visiting Hull Road Park soon... to see Excalibur.
