NEXT week, farmers and growers will begin to receive information through the post on how to begin the process of accessing their share of £22m worth of Government funding.

The money, from European funds, is available over a seven year period as part of the England Rural Development programme. It is to help farmers develop up-to-date skills they need in running competitive businesses. The money will go towards the cost of information and communication technology training, business development, marketing and environmental conservation.

As yet the Government does not know what training will be needed, so farmers and growers are being asked to complete a farming skills check list.

Lantra National Training Organisation has been taken on by the Government to find out what is needed so that training programmes using the funding can be set up.

Lantra urges people to send off a reply paid slip, attached to the leaflet they are sending out for their own copy of the Action Plan for Farming Skill Check or telephone (0800) 169 9794 for a copy.
