More than 12,500 people enjoyed the sunshine at York Racecourse yesterday, 4,000 more than were at the same meeting last year.
James Brennan, marketing manager for the racecourse, said: "We are suitably grateful to the racegoers of York who turned out again to make yesterday a great meeting.
"After last week's support it's great to see people taking another extra day off work.
"The whole day went very well and we are now looking forward to Sunday."
And York Racecourse is gearing up for its first ever Sunday race meeting this weekend which is being sponsored by the Evening Press.
As well as a high-quality seven-race programme there will be a host of special attractions aimed at providing a memorable day out for all the family.
With parachutists landing on the track, cavalry horses parading, and a bucking bronco-style racehorse simulator available for the public to have a go on, the day should be packed with fun.
The Evening Press race day begins at 2pm on Sunday with gates opening at 11.30am. Accompanied children under 16 years of age are admitted free of charge into all enclosures.
Dress can be casual in the Tattersalls stand with smart dress expected in the County Stand.
