A DISABLED York woman is angry after she was left an offensive note claiming she was "selfish" for parking in a orange badge area.

Ann Coatesworth, 66, of Merchant Way, Copmanthorpe, parked in one of four orange badge parking bays outside Tesco supermarket in Askham Bar, with a legitimate disabled sticker in her car.

When Mrs Coatesworth returned to her car a printed note was on her windscreen claiming she should not be using a disabled space.

The handwritten part of the note read: "You do not look disabled. You could be using someone else's disabled badge. Your registration number is being reported.

"Did you have to park this way or are you just a selfish b***ard?" Mrs Coatesworth, who is entitled to a badge because she suffers from angina, arthritis and asthma, said: "When I read the letter my heart raced and my blood pressure went sky high.

"I couldn't understand what I had done wrong. It wasn't until I read the whole note and I realised it was not from Tesco."

The printed note included categories to tick, including: 'parked very selfishly'; 'blocking a driveway'; 'double-parked selfishly'; and 'already ticketed and I'm glad'.

Mrs Coatesworth added: "This is absolutely disgusting. Just because I can still walk without the need of a stick or a wheelchair I should not be victimised in this way.

"To think somebody was standing watching me is pretty frightening."

Kerry Fisher, customer services manager at Tesco, said the store knew nothing of how the note came to be on Mrs Coatesworth's car.

She added: "We are horrified that somebody has done this and that this has happened in our car park.

"We would not want any of our customers to be upset like this."
