With golden memories of York's Ebor meeting still fresh in the mind after last week's star-studded three-day festival, it's back to the Knavesmire tomorrow for another round of action.
Tomorrow's one-day fixture effectively sets the scene for the Evening Press Raceday on Sunday, first Sunday race meeting to be held on Knavesmire.
The £30,000 Strensall Stakes, a Listed race sponsored by uTravel.co.uk, is the most valuable event tomorrow and offers Hopeful Light a good opportunity to complete a hat-trick of wins.
This John Gosden-trained three-year-old has won his last two starts, at Salisbury. He beat Late Night Out by a short-head on his most recent outing. That form received a boost when Late Night won the City of York Stakes on Knavesmire last week.
Hopeful Light steps up to nine furlongs for the first time and will appreciate the extra distance. He is expected to take plenty of beating under Jimmy Fortune.
One of the main features of tomorrow's racing is the Lawrence Batley Rated Handicap in which Night Flight, successful here last week, can oblige again.
Trained near Malton by the in-form Richard Fahey, Night Flight popped-up at 25-1 last Tuesday, but there was no fluke about his success in the hands of John Reid.
Fahey has the Ladbroke Ayr Gold Cup next month firmly in mind for Night Flight, but is prepared to try to scoop this £25,000 event along the way. Under only a small penalty, Night Flight is worthy of interest.
The £22,000 Emirates Airline Garrowby Rated Handicap could fall to Cracow, trained by John Hills and the mount of his brother Richard.
The talented three-year-old lost by only a neck to Westender at Newbury recently and may be capable of going one better over this extra furlong.
Missile Toe carries the nap in the HBLB Travel Trade Gazette Apprentice Handicap. Trained at Newmarket by Dave Morris, who is enjoying a fine campaign, my selection won a couple of races in mid-summer and has run well in defeat since.
This extended 10 furlongs suits him down to the ground and, with the experienced Derek McGaffin in the saddle, he is strongly fancied to return to the winning trail.
Such is the cracking form of John Quinn's Settrington stable that his representative, Archie Babe, deserves consideration in the Batleys Cash & Carry Handicap, which opens the card. Significantly, Kevin Darley has been booked for the mount.
At Brighton, Rita's Rock Ape makes plenty of appeal in the Army Benevolent Fund Handicap over five and a half furlongs.
A former winner over this course and distance, the five-year-old was beaten only three-parts of a length by Sylvan Dream here last week.
