SCARBOROUGH'S caretaker manager Neil Thompson is hoping his own future with the club can be settled this week.

The former York City chief took over on a temporary basis after the resignation of Colin Addison and has steered the club through a critical few weeks as the Seasiders hauled themselves back from the brink of financial collapse.

Creditors voted in favour of a rescue package of Friday and Thompson, who has gone on record that he would like the McCain Stadium job on a permanent basis, is hoping to secure that role soon.

After Saturday's 1-0 home win over Kingstonian, he said: "The players have had a rough time and I'm delighted to come out of it with five points from a possible nine.

"It was a big relief on Friday and I thought we started the match a bit relaxed because of that.

"We only played in fits and starts but there's lots to work on. The win means a lot and I'm pleased for the players.

"We were a bit sloppy at times, but the line at the back was good and they did not really create many chances"

Boro travelled to Leigh RMI today expecting to be given a tough time by the UniBond League champions.

"It will be a difficult game," said Thompson. "They're going to be flying after two wins on the bounce but we will go there with confidence."

An added bonus for Boro was the return to action of bustling striker Chris Tate.

The former York City junior came off the bench to taste his first 45 minutes of Nationwide Conference action this season after missing the opening two matches against Stevenage and Morecambe.
