Heworth found the going tough at Wigan St Judes, who are coached by former Wigan legend Graeme West.
The well-drilled Lancashire side won 30-6 against the Villagers, who played well in parts but equally as badly at times.
Heworth put themselves under pressure from the start with a string of penalties against them and after a high tackle scrum half John McMullen slotted over a kick to get St Jude's on the board.
The opening home try came after ten minutes when man-of-the-match Darren Jones crossed after a good break by hooker Lee Maiden. McMullen added the extras.
Harold Box's side came into the game more for a spell but fell further behind to a try by winger Paul McCormick, which McMullen improved to make it 14-0.
Heworth thought they had got back into the game when scrum half Chris Hammerton fed centre Wayne Foster, who touched down, but the pass was ruled forward.
This was followed by an excellent break by Carl Potter but the final pass went astray.
Five minutes after the interval McCormick added a second try, goaled by McMullen and further scores for Wigan came from substitute Shaun Hilton and Paddy O'Grady, the latter converted by McMullen.
Heworth, well served by second row Sam Clarke, kept plugging away and were rewarded ten minutes from the end when substitute Danny Wright broke through and fed Dan Briggs who raced in from 30 yards.
In addition to Clarke, there were also good performance by Briggs and Mark Green for Heworth.
