WE recently returned home after spending a week in your lovely city. This was not the first time we have holidayed in York and we enjoyed it just as much as in the past and the weather was glorious.
However, I was disappointed at the state of the public loos. There are not enough toilets for the great number of tourists visiting the city and the available ones are smelly and dirty.
The people I met using these facilities were as disgusted as me. In many places there is no water to wash and no facilities for drying. As for the very expensive purpose-built toilet block in Parliament Street, it was hot and airless and it closes in the early evening.
I am sure people wouldn't mind paying for clean and efficient toilet facilities. This is a basic human necessity and should be given priority. Tourists must bring a lot of money to York and the city owes it to them to provide clean, hygienic toilets.
