THE Government is committed to spend £1.4m a year on extensive research to develop a vaccine to protect cattle from TB.
"Development of a bovine TB vaccine is a major element of the Government's strategy to tackle the increasing incidence of this serious disease," said Baroness Hayman, Minister of State at MAFF. "Potential vaccine candidates have been produced and these are being evaluated for their effectiveness."
In making the announcement, it was stated that although the major focus is on development of a vaccine for use in cattle, the option of a vaccine for badgers was being retained.
