YORKSHIRE captain David Byas made a successful return in a testimonial match at Filey yesterday following surgery on his knee.
He opened the batting for Yorkshire with television personality Harry Gration as his partner, but more importantly was in the field for a full 40 overs and suffered no reaction.
"The knee feels fine and if things go well there is no reason why I can't be playing at Scarborough next week against Surrey".
It is also possible that Byas will play for Scarborough together with Craig White in the Yorkshire League on Saturday.
A tired Steve James reflected on his record-breaking feat for Glamorgan in the Division Two County Championship game against Sussex with appropriate satisfaction.
James set a new county record score for the Welshmen with a triple century as the county bettered their own highest-ever first-class total for the second time in a year at Colwyn Bay.
The former England opener remained unbeaten on 309 - beating the 61-year-old record of 287 not out set by Emerys Davies - as Glamorgan racked up a mammoth 718 for three declared.
He said: "It was a great honour to pass the best Glamorgan score ever made. I did not think about it when I continued my innings this morning.
"I treated every ball on its merits and did not think about the milestones because the next ball could have got me.
"I was only tense when I reached 287 (set by the late Davies) and was pleased to get that single to pass his score. But then I never thought too much about reaching 300 until it came along.
"I now feel very tired but very relieved."
Paceman Stuart Lampitt took a career-best seven for 45 as Worcestershire moved into second place in the division with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Warwickshire at New Road.
Out-played Warwickshire, who were forced to follow on 196 behind, were dismissed in their second innings for 231. It left Worcestershire with the task of scoring 36 to secure their second win in their last nine matches.
