OVINGTON were fired up and seeking revenge for an early season defeat when they faced Fulfordgate in the Horwath Pulleyn Heselton York Vale League.
They avenged and did the job by shooting out the visitors for just 44 and then powered to a ten wicket win to stay well ahead at the top of the second division.
David Whittle and Graham Haigh shared the wickets as only Gate skipper Keith Pepper managed double figures.
Keeper David Johnson and John Sharples both took three catches and Sharples led Ovington home with 37 not out.
Ovington's nearest rivals, Hemingbrough, were stunned by bottom club Askham Bryan who beat them by three wickets at the College Ground.
A steady start by Malcolm Calvert and Brian Lakin took Borough to 39 before the first wicket fell, but it was quickly followed by others to leave them 54-5 against the Askham attack.
David Jackson, a patient 48 not out, and Graham Williamson almost doubled the score helping them to 145 for seven.
Following a sound start from Willy Night and Colin Garnett, which yielded 44 runs, Joe Richardson and Richard Seels broke through, but the Villagers stuck to their task diligently.
Mark Grewer (46), with useful contributions from the middle order, saw them to only their second win of the season - but it is perhaps too late to save their division two status.
There were five wicket hauls for York Post Office opening bowlers Paul Thornton and Mike Hamshere as Westow stumbled to 86 all out.
Thornton enjoyed an unbeaten half century, out-scoring his opening partner Martin Baggaley, as the Postmen romped home.
Woodhouse Grange were caught on a damp wicket and simply had no answer to Rob Cole, whose 6-23 ensured a low score of 49 against a much-revitalised Kelfield. Their cause wasn't helped by three run-outs.
Pete Buck stroked Kelfield home with ease to leave the 'Grange with a worrying three weeks in which to avoid relegation.
In division one, Burythorpe marched on as they seek their second consecutive league and cup double, although the emergence of Kelvin Brook, the fine young Drax bowler, gave them a few worries early in the innings.
Despite appalling luck, he still claimed 4-30 from his 13 overs as Burythorpe struggled to 87-4 from the first 30 overs.
Paul Milner, another exciting young prospect, took charge in the last ten overs and more than doubled the score with a hard-hitting 53 - along with invaluable support from Shaun Wilford and Geoff Mort.
Drax are short on batting confidence so it was a very much backs to the wall performance only realising 107-4.
Kevin Thomas top scored with 34 as Burythorpe tried six bowlers to get maximum points.
Burn continue to sparkle, scoring 195-7 against Stockton and Hopgrove.
Steve Nesbitt was missed off a difficult chance when only four and went on to score 94 before being stumped by rival keeper Steve Fraser.
At the other end, Tony Kerrison had an immediate treble wicket maiden as Burn slipped to 155-5.
Graham Stansfield and Ashley Abbott added a further 40 for the unbroken eighth wicket.
Steve Goldsborough and Dave Queenan applied the pressure from the first ball and Stockton found runs hard to come by and at the half way stage had only 51 on the board.
With nothing to lose the Villagers cut loose, Paul Fairclough leading the way with 46 and Dave Lewis 31, but it was in vain as Burn won by 33 runs. Nesbitt crowned his day with three stumpings and a catch.
Aldby Park and Bishopthorpe are joint third, both having won their games. Aldby beat York in a close game while Bishopthorpe routed Thorpe Willoughby.
At Buttercrambe, in a game reduced to 32 overs, the Park reached 140 for four. Pete Aconley top scored with 47, while Alan Day was 39 not out.
York lost skipper Kevin Mendham for a duck but rallied with P Taylor and Nick Ventress scoring well.
Neil Porteus applied the brakes with 3-17 while Day plugged away, returning four for 34 as York slipped behind the run rate, rallying in the latter stages but still six short at the finish.
At Ferry Lane the Bishops openers, Will Reynolds and Jason Whitworth, gave them the ideal start with a stand of 96 which later batsmen failed to capitalise on with the innings closing at 141-5.
This was, however, a winning score as Thorpe could not handle the spin of veteran Mike Brown taking six for 31 from 16 overs. Defeat at Thorpe leaves them facing an immediate return to division two.
John Bonarius and Martin Lancelot helped Heworth to 142 against CGU.
Gavin Faulkner took five and Rob Ellis three wickets and CGU, never getting going, were all out for 109, Andy Bonarius picking up four for 16.
