Romantic Myth, who lost her unbeaten record after becoming upset in the starting stalls at Newbury last month, can bounce back to her brilliant best on the final day of the Ebor Festival on Knavesmire tomorrow.
The flying two-year-old bids for the £80,000 Peugeot Lowther Stakes and can follow in the hoofprints of Jemima, who won this Group 2 prize for trainer Tim Easterby 12 months ago.
Romantic Myth, whose runaway success in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in June stamped her as arguably the best sprinting juvenile seen out this season, spoilt her chances of making it four wins in a row in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury after lashing out in the stalls beforehand and losing her chance before the race had begun.
She was unsurprisingly sore immediately after her unplaced effort, but thankfully suffered no lasting damage and her recent work has convinced Easterby that she remains in tip-top form.
The likelihoood is that Romantic Myth will be loaded late in the stalls tomorrow, which should virtually eliminate the risk of upset by leaving her with only a matter of seconds before the race gets underway.
Although all her three wins have been gained over the minimum trip, tomorrow's six furlongs is not expected to inconvenience her. A return to winning form is strongly anticipated for the local star.
Easterby also saddles a leading fancy in the £175,000 Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes in the shape of Pipalong, beaten only inches in last month's July Cup at Newmarket.
A bold bid is again exected, but the drop back from six furlongs to five may just count against Pipalong, and Eastern Purple is consequently preferred to give Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan his biggest success.
An improved horse since being gelded in mid-season, Eastern Purple has run two cracking races since, being beaten a whisker at Goodwood before going one better in a Group 3 race at Leopardstown 11 days ago.
Tough, genuine and on the upgrade, Eastern Purple can hit the heights here and is awarded the nap vote.
The Charles Heidsieck Champagne Melrose Handicap looks a good opportunity for Fanfare to bag a useful prize.
The three-year-old, trained by Gerrard Butler, has been in consistent and progressive form this summer and, with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, she can notch her third success in this £30,000 contest.
The Bradford & Bingley Rated Handicap is a wide-open race, as usual, but Red N'Socks should not be overlooked.
John Dunlop's charge ran a blinder to finish a close-up seventh in the William Hill Mile at Goodwood last month when he was disadvantaged by a poor draw, not to mention getting loose before the race.
He certainly deserves the chance of gaining deserved compensation tomorrow.
The progressive Firecrest can be another winner for Dunlop in the Galtres Stakes, while in the concluding McArthurglen Designer Outlet City Of York Stakes, Jemima merits consideration.
Winner of the Lowther Stakes on this card last season, Tim Easterby's filly ran a blinder to finish third in a Listed race at Pontefract last Sunday.
