Yorkshire captain David Byas was making his comeback from injury in his benefit match against a Filey XI at Filey today.

And on Saturday he will play for his home club, Scarborough, in their Yorkshire League match against the Yorkshire Academy at North Marine Road.

Byas, who had a cartilage operation on his right knee after pulling up lame while batting at Taunton almost three weeks ago, is setting his sights on being fully fit to lead Yorkshire in their top-of-the-table Championship clash against leaders Surrey at Scarborough in a week's time.

"Things have gone very well since the operation and I have been gradually building up my training over the past 12 days," said Byas.

"I will see how this match goes and then have further nets tomorrow in preparation for Saturday's game against the Academy which will give me the opportunity to run the rule over some of our younger players.

"I will travel with the Yorkshire squad to Northamptonshire for next Monday's National League game but at this stage I do not think I will play.

"All of our Test players will be available for what is a very important match and I think it would probably be unwise for me to come back too early."

Meanwhile, Yorkshire Under 16s yesterday achieved their second win in consecutive matches at the Jersey Youth Festival when they beat Dorset by 86 runs.

Nicholas Whitehill, from North Halifax Grammar School, hit an unbeaten century and Castleford's Tim Bresnan scored 45 not out in Yorkshire's 216 for four. Off-spinner James Broadbent, who attends Ryedale School and comes from Stockton-on-Tees, then claimed four for 36 as Dorset were bowled out for 130.

Yorkshire, winners of last year's tournament, beat the Channel Islands on Monday and today they meet Northamptonshire.

The semi-finals are tomorrow and the final on Friday.
