INTERNATIONAL honours are firmly in the sights of York Wasps' hot prospect Gareth Lloyd, writes Dianne Hillaby.
Lloyd has been named in the Great Britain and Ireland amateurs' 24-man train-on squad for the forthcoming Emerging Nations World Championships.
His selection follows his performance in Yorkshire's outstanding 30-0 defeat of county champions Cumbria in a GB trial match at the weekend.
The 25-year-old former Acorn star is still eligible for amateur honours as he has only signed amateur forms with the Wasps.
Heworth's Steve Barnard was also in the Yorkshire team but missed out on selection.
However, the current GB squad is expected to reach a total of 30 and can be added to or subtracted from at any time before the start of the championships.
Yorkshire provide 13 players in the train-on squad, Lancashire and Cumbria four each, the Combined Services two and the Student Rugby league one. They begin training on Sunday.
