A TASTE of the Ibiza fun and frivolity is coming to York this weekend as a fundraiser launches her bid to raise £2,500 for cancer research.

Donna Riley, 29, of Strensall, is trying to raise the money for The Cancer Research Campaign with her third trek for the charity, in Chile next March.

Donna's mum lost her fight against cancer in 1998 and ever since Donna has made every effort to raise money for research into the disease.

On Saturday, an Ibiza beach party has been organised at The Shoulder of Mutton pub in Heworth to give the fundraising a kick-start.

Donna's friends Maria and David, along with landlady Cath Henderson have organised the 36-hour fundraising marathon which starts at noon.

A bucking bronco, bungee runs, a surf machine and bouncy castle will provide a host of fun for all the family. In the evening, there will be a beach fancy-dress disco.

Donna said: "The event should be absolutely brilliant and hopefully if we get some nice hot weather it will feel like we're actually in sunny Ibiza.

"We want people to come along this weekend and have a really fun time as well as help raise lots of cash for the Cancer Research Campaign.

"Be sure people wear beach wear in the evening. And I have to say a big thank you to Maria, Cath and David for organising the event."

Andrea Bacon, the Cancer Research Campaign's community fundraiser, said: "It takes so much time and energy to reach a fundraising target as high as £2,500 and to do it for the third year running for the Cancer Research Campaign is very brave."

Tickets for the night event cost £5 and are available from Kath on 01904 424793. To find out about Trek Chile, contact the Cancer Research Campaign on 0870 606 0016.
