WIGGINTON have been crowned division four champions in the Fulford Ladies Invitation League.
A 70-38 success over Copmanthorpe secured the title with a solid team performance from Lesley Ford, Lynne Dent, Anne Mead, Ann Atkinson, Val Renshaw and Pauline Wrigglesworth, ensuring a comfortable victory.
Fulford have moved to the top of division one after their 66-43 win over Tadcaster.
It proved to be a tight affair as Tadcaster, still haunted by the possibility of relegation, battled for every point and it led to some close matches.
While defeat was not to Tadcaster's liking, at least their games return was of help and they are now well placed in the battle to avoid the drop with a 63 game cushion over Wheldrake.
To be sure of survival Tadcaster need to beat Knaresborough, who could have a big say in who takes the drop as they also face struggling Poppleton.
But the hardest task among the three sides battling to avoid stepping down with Appleton-Roebuck belongs to Wheldrake.
They have to take on a York side who are still gunning for the title, though that issue may have already been settled as second placed York face top team Fulford on Thursday night.
The division two programme was completed with Bubwith as champions ahead of long-time leaders Bishopthorpe.
Bubwith ended their successful season with a 77-31 trouncing of Cawood with Anna Airaksinen and Margaret Stevenson winning all three of their matches by 10-2 margins.
While disappointed at missing top spot, Bishopthorpe return to the top flight after only season in division two, while at the bottom Selby saved themselves and New Earswick have been relegated along with Tollerton.
Civil Sevice beat Poppleton 72-36 in division three with Brenda Sorby and Lesley Sinton top scoring with 23 games.
However, they still could not make an impact on the top placings and finished fourth.
Cliffe also beat Poppleton, though by a much tighter 57-51 margin, and they too failed to break into the promotion places with Strensall going up with divisional winners Rowntree Park. Riccall and Sheriff Hutton are the favourites to make the drop into division four.
