The showdown for the York John Smith's Ladies League individual competition championship is between Michelle Britton (Wenlock) and Angie Hields (City Arms), writes Dave Fotheringham.
The two, both previous winners of the title, meet tonight at Layerthorpe WMC, Britton having won through a tight semi-final clash with Julie Scattergood, while Hields had 19 darts to deal with from Slipper's Anita Weatherstone.
Scattergood was, however, successful with Anne Smith in the pairs event. The Puss n'Boots duo defeated Sue Claydon and Jackie Coverdale 2-0 and will face the title holders Roz Kerr and Jo Hodges in the final.
The Brigadier combination included six ton-plus scorers to eliminate Sue Smith and Hields.
Hields, Bev Harton and Carole Pipes are the Triples Crown champions and a 2-0 victory over Puss n'Boots pits them against a Dringhouses team comprising Karen Jackson, Carol Brayshaw and Chris Myhill - 2-1 victors of Slip.
Scattergood and Smith put their names on the Captain-Vice Captain Trophy last season and a 2-0 win over Britton and Dawn Exton has handed them another shot at the title, but their opponents are tough cookies.
Bev Harton and Carole Pipes are no strangers to winning this competition and a 2-1 win against Hodges and Sue Lowery set up an exciting encounter.
Tap and Spile turned on the style to open up a five point lead in York White Rose Ladies League division two after beating Six Bells 6-1, Jan Clarke recording Bells' only victory.
Second placed Coach found themselves wilting against lowly-placed King William.
However, Coach superbly sprung back into action with wins from Yvonne Ryder, Maggie Adamson, Jill Clapham and June Mallory.
Bumper Castle shared the early encounters with Nags Head, but Bumper's skipper, Rose O'Bee, wasn't willing to drop vital points. She inspired them to victory and a move into third place.
Fulfordgate continue to press Sun for the division one title. They won 5-2 at Burton WMC, but were 5-0 up with Joyce Tate and Olive Thompson denying them a whitewash.
Sun faced a tricky tie at Vaults, but ran out 5-2 winners.
They hold a five point lead with just four matches remaining.
Railway Institute's Irene Taylor successfully paired with Dot Osbourne to get them through a crucial stage in the match with New York.
Institute eventually won 5-2 and ended any title aspirations for New York.
Elaine Candler helped chalk up Huntington's second win of the season against Post.
Nevertheless, they still hold up the rest of the table as Alice Hawthorne also clinched a rare victory when Jackie Peacock and Deborah Horner finished off a 5-2 score against Bowling Club.
New teams wishing to enter the winter season, to commence in October, should contact the fixtures secretary on 01904-656361.
Huntington have won the York John Smith's mixed league division one by one point.
Rich Plummer gamed on 99 for 21 darts then included a maximum when winning the decider against Punch Bowl 'B'.
Cygnet 'C' are the division two champions and had a 180 score from Dave Smith to count in their victory over Vaults 'B'.
Finals night is at Layerthorpe WMC on September 1 (8pm) and the winter season commences September 10.
