LITTLE Sam Broadley is a hero to his family - and especially to his dad.
The brave five-year-old kept his cool and shouted for help after his father broke his leg at Brimham Rocks, near Knaresborough.
Sam, of Forresters Walk, Stamford Bridge, was on a walk with his dad Steve, mum Sheena and 14-month-old sister Selina, when Steve slipped into a hole which was hidden by undergrowth.
Sheena, 34, a hairdresser, said: "It was a little bit wet and slippery, but we were having a great time pretending we were in a jungle when Steve got his foot stuck.
"He was carrying Selina, so he fell awkwardly trying to save her, and she landed in a bilberry bush.
"When Steve pulled his leg out of the hole, it looked like his foot was totally detached. I started shaking and I turned round and Sam stood there with his hands over his mouth and I could see him shaking too."
Sheena decided to leave the children with their father so she could get help more quickly.
Sam said: "Mum said every time I heard her voice I had to shout back.
Dad said I was very brave."
Sheena, who suffers from asthma, ran off for help and eventually met another family who were able to call the emergency services on their mobile. Steve, 39, manager of the Scarborough Building Society, in York, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital where he had an operation and, is making good progress.
