IF it is clear there is a demand for larger shops in York as claimed by Roy Templeman, why is it that the Co-op, which originally stretched the length of Rougier Street, was divided into smaller units and then eventually closed? Or why, more recently, has the old Rowntree store in Coney Street been divided into small shops and why is the former Presto in George Hudson Street still derelict?
Let these questions be answered and let the site around Clifford's Tower be landscaped keeping new building development on the Piccadilly side of the River Foss.
Tony Cleaver,
Bramley Garth, York.
