INTERIOR designer and television personality Peter Plaskitt has run into a fresh conflict with City of York planners.

The star of the BBC's Home Front, and a former Evening Press columnist, Mr Plaskitt has had plans to extend his Monkgate home turned down by councillors.

The refusal comes only three months after he was ordered to pull down a conservatory built without planning permission on the neighbouring Grade II Listed shop.

The latest refusal goes against City of York Council's planning officers who recommended councillors to approve the scheme.

The Plaskitts had applied to build a single-storey extension to the side of the building, with a two-storey building and a conservatory to the back.

They also asked to build a garage and studio at the end of the back garden, replacing an existing garage.

Development control officer Mick Britton said: "These extensions are sensitively designed to be in keeping with the building and the conservation area in which it is situated.

"Unlike the situation on the adjacent shop where a conservatory type extension was recently refused, the conservatory in this case is much smaller and will be hidden from view."

But councillors turned it down, claiming it was over development which would result in an adverse impact on a neighbour and the character of the conservation area.

Mr Plaskitt said: "Considering that we went through hoops to try to get this, and the officers recommended that it was approved, I am very disappointed."

He said he would be meeting with council officers to discuss revising the application or appealing against the decision.

An appeal against the order to pull down the conservatory is being processed.
