YORK was today bracing itself for the tail end of a hurricane expected to hit northern England this evening.
Torrential rain is forecast to move up the country during the day, arriving in North and East Yorkshire tonight.
The bad weather is caused by hurricane Alberto which has been sweeping across the Atlantic.
A PA WeatherCentre spokeswoman said: "The rain is going to be extremely heavy and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some localised flooding."
