MUM and daughter Lee and Laura Beaumont shared their joy when they both passed the same A-level exam in Sociology.
Laura, 18, of Huntington, York, took the exam along with two other A-levels at the Mount School and gained a grade A.
Her mum, Lee, 44, took exactly the same exam at York College, and after a one-year part-time course, gained a grade B.
Their teachers shared in their celebrations too - Laura's sociology teacher, Gerry Hallam, is the partner of Lee's sociology teacher, Linda Ejlali.
Lee said it was when Laura was doing her homework that she had first got interested in sociology.
"I thought it was so interesting that I wouldn't mind doing it myself," she said.
She said they had been studying different subjects at different times during the course, but had done some revision together over the Easter break.
Lee is a community outreach worker for Future Prospects in York, which aims to get people back into work or training.
She said: "This is the first exam I've done for 29 years so I'm practising what I preach! I'm saying go out and do it because you can do it when you're working full time.
"I was nervous before the exam but I was running on adrenaline and I really enjoyed it."
Laura is now off to Aberystwyth University to study English and Drama. Lee is planning to take another A level and hopes to do a degree herself eventually.
