YORK light-heavyweight prospect Jamie Warters is just one fight from earning a shot at the British title, the Evening Press can reveal.
The self-styled Jorvik Warrior is set to end almost a year of frustrating inactivity when he takes on Wakefield's Paul Bonson in an eliminator for the British crown on October 2.
The fight, at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, in Sheffield, and to be screened live on Sky Television, will also mark Warters' first crack at a title in the pro-ring with the central area light-heavyweight belt up for grabs.
Having not fought since out-pointing Hull's Terry Morrill in November last year, Warters, 25, admitted he was delighted to be climbing through the ropes again.
"I will be fighting for my first title but it is the fact it is an eliminator that is the most important thing - the British title has been my number one priority," said Warters.
