OH dear, once again Martin Durham is firing off letters to the Evening Press about Next Generation's Tennis Centre without getting his facts right. (Letters, August 14).
When Andrij Jurkiw - who was delegated to represent the views of a number of objectors - spoke at the planning meeting about the notion of brilliant tennis players suddenly appearing as a result of this development, he was responding directly to a remark which had just been made by one of the councillors present.
So that is where he "...got this Alice In Wonderland idea from..", Mr Durham.
Furthermore, no one at any time objected to the idea of a tennis centre in York.
Our objections were solely to this location and we have actively supported alternative proposals at Clifton Moor and Monks Cross which would not impinge on a residential area.
Mr Jurkiw's points about the catchment area of the new centre were precisely that users would be coming in from a distance. In other words, driving in on an already congested road with more than its fair share of accident blackspots, and as such it would make more sense to site the centre at an out-of-town location.
Martin Durham really seems to be upset by people attempting to preserve their quality of life and, in the case of Woodlands MS Centre, their very essence. I do not understand what his problem is.
