Bubwith have sealed an impressive double in the IT Sports York and District Mixed Tennis League.

Their first team were already sitting proudly at the top of division five and their second team fought off the challenge of nearest rivals Escrick to take the division ten title at the first attempt having only entered a second team this season.

John Hughes and Anne Wottage led the 74-34 victory over Escrick, but none of the Bubwith couples could beat Escrick's Keith Bickerdike and Joan Dunwell.

Selby kept up their challenge with a 67-41 win at Tollerton with first couple of Dave Ashton and Sarah Pearse top of the averages.

Poppleton ended their campaign in division one with a victory over York seconds to maintain their unbeaten record.

Sutton's Paul Swift and Lucienne Atkinson were in dominant form winning 31 games.

Riccall's division three status was secured after they beat relegated New Earswick 68-40 thanks to top scorers Rex Pocklington and Michelle Hall, who won all three rubbers 9-3.

Selby are relegated along with New Earswick after they drew with Civil Service.

Dunnington are celebrating in division four after they won their last two matches against Cawood and Wigginton.

They took the title by one point from rivals Tollerton, who also finished with a win against Wilberfoss.

Johnny Sumner and Sheilagh Stephenson were in great form winning 31 games in the match against Wigginton, who included a number of their juniors who emerged with great credit.

Wilberfoss are relegated after their defeat by promoted Tollerton.

Alistair Yellup and Jill Schofield led the celebrations at Bubwith as they finished the season unbeaten and took the division five title with a win over closest rivals Cliffe.

Yellup and Schofield won 30 games, backed by Doug Smith and Margaret Stevenson with 27.

However, Cliffe bounced back from the setback to take the second promotion place after their 76-32 win against relegated Bishopthorpe.

The success saw them edge out Stillington, who will finish in third spot again.

Rowntree Park should take fourth spot after their win at New Earswick where John Neary and Sandra Robinson starred for Park winning 29 games.

Rearranged matches will decide the relegation places in division six after Sutton-on-Derwent defeated Tadcaster to take the second promotion place ahead of Riccall.

Dunnington are awaiting results after they lost to a dominant Riccall 80-28, and it could be a costly defeat with games difference set to be a deciding factor.

Appleton Roebuck finished their division eight fixtures strongly, beating New Earswick 88-20, where the beaten side fell foul of the eligibility rule and had to forfeit games - although the result was not affected.

Cawood hold the key to the relegation issue with their final match against Strensall set to decide the fate of Dunnington.

Riccall have overtaken Cliffe in the battle for promotion in division nine and are challenging for the title tonight as their final match against leaders Sutton-on-Derwent will decide which club wins the trophy.

Both teams have a very similar games difference but Riccall must win to take the crown.

Riccall have taken over from Cliffe after two good wins against relegated Civil Service and Cliffe themselves in a close 56-52 win, thanks to Tom and Judith Bray the top scorers, although they could not beat Cliffe's Bruce Parker and Shirley Leak.
