Dunnington are bidding to become the first team to win the York and District Senior League Cup in three successive seasons when they meet Acomb in the final at Driffield tomorrow (2pm start).

Acomb, whose previous successes in the competition were in 1984 and 1994 are currently riding high in third place in the premier division having been promoted as first division champions last year.

Dunnington were relegated last term but are odds on favourites to win the first division which they currently lead by 32 points.

Richard Clayton returns from holiday to skipper an Acomb side which will miss the services of all-rounder David Sykes, who is currently sitting on top of the premier division batting averages and has also claimed 31 wickets, and early order batsman Joey Burton.

But, their opening pair, Richard Sykes and Andy Tute have scored almost 1,000 runs between them and will be looking to lay the foundation for a big score.

Sri Lankan, Dominda Perera is a capable allrounder but much will depend on Clayton as a bowler with James Byford and Tim Merrick looking to provide support. Acomb keeper Bill Carter is a survivor from Acomb's two previous triumphs.

Harwood Williams will lead the Dunnington side in his role as cup captain and will have two Caribbean colleagues in former West Indian Test star Alvin Kallicharran and pace man Joseph Grant.

Kallicharran will open the innings with former Yorkshire player Simon Kellett and the pair are likely to present considerable problems for Acomb's bowlers.

Joe Grant has bagged a chest full of wickets this season and is a big threat with his pace

Fellow bowlers include spinner Steve Precious, whose talents have earned him a number of calls into the Yorkshire Cricket Board side, and ex-Acomb medium pacer Dudley Cooper while Paul Miles will keep wicket and provide his usual aggressive late order batting from the number seven slot.

Individual medals for all the players are being sponsored by Costcutter Supermarkets while the Man of the Match award for the Ian Reed Memorial Trophy will be judged by Tony Frith, who will be stepping down as League Chairman at the end of the season after serving a record term of 16 years.
