THE York Union of Golf Club's side put up a good showing in the latest round of Yorkshire Inter-district matches but fell to a strong Bradford side going down 24-12.
York turned out one of their strongest teams ever with the highest handicapper playing off four, but against a Bradford side that included former Yorkshire amateur champion Phillip Wood, they lacked the necessary firepower.
At Fulford the visitors built a 10-2 lead in the morning foursomes with York's only winners being the pairing of Fulford's Steve Dunn and Kirkbymoorside's Andrew Homes.
Bradford took the singles 14-10 with Dunn completing a notable day on his home course with victory over Wood.
Other good performances saw Pike Hills pair Russ Chilton and Martin Brown, Fulford's Kevin Miller and John Wilson, of Easingwold, also win their singles matches.
However, Harrogate remain bottom of the Yorkshire Inter-district table after suffering a 27-9 reversal against Teesside at Saltburn.
Sheffield maintained their 100 per cent record with a 23-13 win over East Riding at Rotherham and Leeds remain second following their narrow 21-19 victory over Halifax-Huddersfield at Meltham.
Fulford captain Ted Kendall is enjoying his year at the helm and was a winning guest at York Union's President's Day at Malton and Norton Golf Club.
Combining with Pike Hills' Russ Chilton, Mike Ward, of Forest of Galtres, and Malton and Norton's Rob Kilcran, he carried off first prize in the team event.
The winning quartet finished one shot ahead of Kirkbymoorside's Andrew Holmes, Malton and Norton's Bob Mansell, Mike Bickerton, of Pike Hills, and Trevor Smith, also from the host club.
Steve Jackson, playing off eight, and Robin Henderson (11) had a superb ten under par round of 62 to win the annual Arthur Brown Trophy at Fulford by three shots.
Arthur Brown is an ex-president and captain of Fulford and was a York City director when they reached the FA Cup semi-final in 1955.
