YORK City fans will get a glimpse of what could have been tomorrow with striker Luke Beckett set to make his League debut for Chesterfield, writes Dave Stamford.
The former Chester City hot shot, subject of a £150,000 bid by York over the summer, lines up alongside Davids Reeves in what looks like a fearsome attack for the Spirerites.
Beckett was on target last weekend when Chesterfield beat West Brom 1-0, their third victory over opposition from higher divisions of a productive pre-season.
Confidence is high at Saltergate despite relegation last year as Division Two's bottom club.
Manager Nicky Law has rebuilt steadily over the summer and the signing of former City defensive lynchpin Steve Tutill from Darlington has added a touch of steel to the defence.
Goalkeeper Mike Pollitt, snapped up from Rotherham after earning selection to the Division Three team of last season, has also been in fine form according to souces at Chesterfield.
The Spirerites boss was hoping to boost his squad further this week by securing the services of midfielders Lee Richardson, with Livingstone last season, and former Icelandic Under-21 international Bjarni Larusson, formerly of Walsall.
The only injury worry for Law is former Scarborough and Hull City midfielder David D'Auria, who has picked up a back injury in pre-season.
Former City defender Andy McMillan, who has been training with Chesterfield, is not included in the squad.
