SKULLS are the latest fashion accessory for people leaving York's Jorvik Viking Centre.
The new Skullsplitter exhibition has captured the imagination of the centre's visitors who are emptying the shelves of the new macabre merchandise.
The range includes Skullsplitter pencils, rucksacks and ornamental pewter and brass skulls.
Skullsplitter is the first new exhibition to open in the Viking Centre and brings a new dimension to a visit by painting a complete picture of city life in the Viking age.
The displays have been interwoven into the existing visitor experience and includes graphic illustrations of Viking age injuries.
The exhibition also includes a glass sarcophagus containing the skeleton of a real Viking warrior and new display areas for Viking weaponry.
Margaret Gibb, operations and retail manager at Jorvik Viking Centre, said: "Our Skullsplitter gifts are proving even more popular than expected. They are being bought by young and old alike.
"We don't appear to be attracting any particular blood thirsty or ghoulish customers but it seems we have grabbed the interest of Viking fans."
