THE views of Piccadilly residents on Coppergate II (Evening Press, August 2) have surely missed the point.
No one is arguing that Piccadilly should not be redeveloped - preferably for mixed use including housing, offices, leisure and some retail.
All these are demonstrable needs for the city. Therefore the residents views do not further the debate and could be viewed as a further Land Securities smoke-screen to get planning permission for 250,000 square feet of retail.
Did Land Securities call the residents' meeting? Did they put out the press release? It is rather strange that 30 residents rather than the whole environmental lobby grabbed the headlines in the press.
