ONCE again the drugs tsar Keith Halliwell is to spend £30 million of tax payers' money to put users in rehab.
Isn't he approaching the problem from the wrong end? What he needs to do is to ensure anyone convicted of selling hard drugs is given a ten year prison sentence without a day's remission, all their assets sold and that cash to be used for rehab. This would concentrate minds.
Any club doorman can point you in the direction of drug pushers. The police know who they are but courts usually pass derisory sentences and the dealers are prepared to take the risk.
Many drug-users resort to crime to fund their habits, are usually unable or unwilling to work and this costs tax payers even more. Labour's 'get tough on crime' would be laughable if it were not so serious. Is there any MP out there prepared to tackle this problem?
