FORMER Fulford and The York player Stephen East (Sandmoor) put up a tremendous battle in the English Amateur Championship against champion Paul Casey before losing on the final green.
Their third round match went right down to the wire before 41-year-old East was edged out in the third round encounter.
He was level until three putting on the 11th and then dropped a stroke at the 15th, but a birdie at the par-four 16th set up a nail-biting finish.
Matthew Bugg (Selby) beat East's Sand Moor colleague D Wood by one hole in the second round, but was beaten by T Whitehouse (Maxstoke Park) by two holes in the third round.
Catterick's Roger Roper lost 2 and 1 to J Kemp (Jophn O'Gaunt) in the second round.
