THE funeral was taking place this afternoon at Crayke Parish Church of Michael Channing, whose body was found in woods near Easingwold last Friday.
An inquest has been opened into his death.
Mr Channing, 41, of Stillington Road, Crayke, who was married with a child, died from head injuries and gunshot wounds to the head. His body was discovered in woods between Oulston and Yearsley, near Easingwold.
The inquest was opened and adjourned by deputy coroner for North Yorkshire East John Broadbridge. Further inquiries are taking place.
Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
