MARTIN LACY visits a high class sandwich place at the McArthurGlen designer outlet at Naburn
PRET a Manger prides itself on preparing fresh food and using the best quality ingredients. It shows - in both the prices and, happily, the quality.
Tasty and attractively-presented food is displayed in glass fronted cabinets. You help yourself and pay at the counter which also dispenses drinks and hot desserts.
All the food looked attractive and appetising and from a good selection we went for sushi and a Pret Wrap. My sushi - pieces of raw salmon, cod and tuna with prawn, sticky, boiled rice, fiery horseradish paste, zing pickled ginger and a tangy soy sauce and mirin dip - was excellent. Carol was equally delighted with her 'wrap' - tasty Thai chicken and vegetables in a soft tortilla.
Desserts - a Creme Pret (a cross between creme brule and egg custard) and Dime Bar Cheesecake - were equally appreciated.
Our bill came to more than £13 but we were well fed and satisfied. Quality comes at a price - and this was a price worth paying.
