GIANT'S Causeway, as tough as he is talented, can come out on top in a fascinating renewal of the £250,000 Champagne Lanson Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood tomorrow.
The colt, trained in County Tipperary by Aidan O'Brien, will be reunited with Michael Kinane, who was forced to miss the three-year-old's latest outing because of a back injury.
George Duffield proved a more than able deputy, galvanising Giant's Causeway to a thrilling head victory over Kalanisi in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
Previously successful in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, which he also won by a head in a ding-dong finish, Giant's Causeway is a horse who relishes a battle with a heart as big as himself.
With nine rivals tomorrow, the Irish raider faces another formidable test. Last year's winner Aljabr and the multi-talented French challenger Dansili look the main dangers in a crackerjack of a race.
But the courage and strength of Giant's Causeway is expected to sway the balance and this top-notch performer can win his fourth race of the season.
John Dunlop likes nothing better than to saddle winners at his local track and the Arundel trainer can win the £70,000 Tote Gold Trophy Showcase Handicap.
Dunlop saddles Romantic Affair, winner of his last two races and a colt capable of coping with this step up in class. Richard Quinn has the mount.
Tango Two Thousand gets my vote in the Weatherbys Bank Fillies Handicap.
The John Gosden trained three-year-old romped home by four lengths at Windsor last time and looks to be worth following. Robert Havlin again has the mount tomorrow.
The Champagne Lanson Vintage Stakes can fall to Chianti, who looks ready to cope with this step up to Group 3 company after becoming fully acquainted with York racegoers.
Chianti's only two public appearances have been on Knavesmire and both times he has won with the minimum of fuss. The John Dunlop-trained juvenile, a 500,000 guineas yearling has the look of a high-class colt.
At Carlisle, Puppet Play can have her rivals dancing to her tune in 'thehorsesmouth.co.uk' Fillies Handicap.
Successful at Pontefract two outings ago, Puppet Play has since finished third over this course and distance in a race which has worked out remarkably well.
The winner Thwaab has scored again since at Redcar, while Ryefield, the runner-up went one better at Ayr.
Puppet Play, trained by the in-form Eric Alston, is napped to get back on the winning trail here.
Also worth noting are Treasure Touch (2.35) and Picture Puzzle (3.10), while Jumbo's Flyer (3.40) is worth more than a passing look under John Egan.
