YORK swimmer Caroline Foot took consolation for her Olympic trials disappointment last week by winning the British title in the 50m butterfly yesterday.

The week-long ASA National Championships at Sheffield, which have been doubling up as the Sydney Games trials, saw Foot finish down in fourth in the 100m butterfly on Wednesday, which ruled her out of a third Olympic appearance.

However, she made up some way for that disappointment by storming to a comfortable victory in the 50m - which is not an Olympic event - in a time of 27.73 seconds.

The 35-year-old former York City Baths Club swimmer was already ranked number one in Britain at that distance.
