I WAS delighted to see that the Duke of York is visiting Riccall to open the new Community Centre. Your readers should understand that the project was granted a Charter of the Duke of York's Community Initiative which was presented at the Royal Armouries, Leeds, in April 1999.
The Community Initiative, originated by the Duke himself following a visit to York in 1997, is concerned with encouraging and promoting community spirit throughout the four counties of Yorkshire and 31 diverse community schemes have received these awards from the Duke.
Anyone wishing to apply for a Charter should get in touch with this office - telephone 01904 557235, fax 01904 557236 ore-mail foundation@stwilliams.demon. co.uk and they will be sent full details of this unique and prestigious award.
Henry Woods,
Chairman, The Duke of York's Community Initiative in Yorkshire,
