KEVIN Darley will be aboard Beat All in tomorrow's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot, but the Sheriff Hutton jockey's mount is unlikely to live up to his name - especially with Montjeu in the field.
The mighty French challenger, who is seeking his sixth Group 1 triumph, looks head and shoulders above his rivals in this £750,000 showpiece and is fully justified to be the odds-on favourite.
Brilliant winner of last season's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe and the French and Irish Derbys, Montjeu is unbeaten in two starts this term, confirming his appetite for racing at the age of four.,
The possibility of fast ground would have been a point against Michael Kinane's mount, but with the track having been watered and rain forecast he is unlikely to be inconvenienced by the conditions underfoot.
Among his opponents, Daliapour has looked an improved performer this season but he will need to be to trouble Montjeu, who beat him five lengths into second in last year's Irish Derby.
Beat All, like Daliapour trained by Sir Michael Stoute, looks to be playing for minor honours, along with Fantastic Light, the mount of John Reid and trained by Saeed bin Suroor, who has a wonderful record in this race.
But I find it impossible to oppose Montjeu in this heavyweight championship.
Fruits Of Love was today ruled out after the declarations had been made. Trainer Mark Johnston said the five-year-old is lame with a recurrence of a hock problem.
Sugarfoot, the pride of Nigel Tinkler's Langton stable, goes for the £150,000 Tote International Handicap and looks sure to run a big race, despite having top weight.
A dual-winner this season and a proven Group-race performer, Sugarfoot's class should stand him in excellent stead.
Also worth noting on a first-rate Ascot programme which puts the rest of tomorrow's action in the shade are the classy Enthused (2.35) and Nap selection Tornado Prince (4.25), who makes stacks of appeal under Emma Ramsden in the ladies race after solid efforts at Carlisle at Newmarket.
Channel 4 are televising four races from Newcastle and two from Redcar.
The £15,000 Stanely Racing Beeswing Handicap takes pride of place at Newcastle, where Jorrocks, a good second at Beverley earlier this week, can take advantage of bottom weight. Mick Easterby has booked Richard Fahey's good apprentice Paul Hanagan for the mount.
The promising Gothic Revival (4.45) and Maraha (2.45) are two others to note.
At Redcar, make a note of Riparian in the Bet Direct From Littlewoods Handicap.
Sir Michael Stoute's lightly-raced colt got off the mark at Newcastle three weeks ago, and, although not impressive in that soft race, looks the type to improve considerably with experience.
The progressive Dominaite (3.30) is also worth attention, as is Redoubtable (5.05) after a solid run at Haydock recently.
