DECISION day approaches for York City trialists David McNiven and Phil Hadland after the Minstermen continued their run of pre-season victories with a 2-1 win over non-league Newcastle Town.
City boss Terry Dolan confirmed he expects to come to a decision over the players' futures within the next seven days after watching both Hadland and McNiven in action last night.
McNiven gave his chances of earning a contracta boost by scoring City's winning goal lwhile Hadland impressed when he slotted in at right-wing back after starting the game in midfield.
Despite the victory, Dolan admitted he was non too impressed by his side's first-half performance in particular.
"In the first half we were very poor but steadily got better," said the City chief. "We had one or two problems in midfield because the work we have been doing has involved Steve Agnew, Kevin Hulme and Christian Fox.
"When Agnew came on in the second-half and Hadland moved to wing-back we looked a lot better and although we didn't create too many clear-cut chances we were comfortable winners."
Newcastle, of the First North West Trains League, threatened an upset when they took the lead after just 10 minutes through Justin O'Reilly.
However, as the half-hour mark approached young midfielder Christian Fox levelled matters for City after earlier hitting the post.
McNiven pounced moments later to give City the advantage.
Only new striker Peter Duffield of the 18-man squad currently in the Potteries did not feature last night, with the City chief electing to take another look at McNiven instead.
