ON behalf of St Leonard's Hospice, I should like to thank everyone who helped make the Let's Party weekend of July 1 and 2 such a success.
Although it will be a while before we know the total amount raised from all the individual events, our own Community Fun Day held in conjunction with York College, raised nearly £5,000 for our Hospice 2000 Millennium Appeal. Several other charities took part and it was a very happy day, a real community event.
The Evening Press supplement showed that many other groups and individuals had fun too. We have received some splendid contributions and, when we have heard from everybody, we can announce the total raised.
In the meantime, our very grateful thanks to all the organisers of events and to those who too part; to Railtrack who sponsored printing and who thought of the idea in the first place; to Tesco who provided so much 2000 merchandise; to the Evening Press for their promotion; to City of York Council and the police for their support.
Thank you, too, to the Lord Mayor for including us in her charities at the carnival which rounded off such a memorable weekend to celebrate the new Millennium in York.
