AS the maker of the video about Coppergate Riverside, I should like to respond to Dawn Biram's letter concerning the video and exhibition (July 12).

There is a long history of documentary-makers being asked to produce corporate material, most notably Molly Dineen's party political broadcast for the Labour party.

Those who commission such work generally have a genuine desire to show the subject matter in a factual and human way rather than resorting to the triumphal music, outlandish graphics and sycophantic commentary which characterise many corporate videos.

It has been clearly stated in all publicity that the video was commissioned by Land Securities. My aim in the video was to present the background to the proposals and the plans for the new development clearly and accurately in a manner which would engage its audience.

In the course of doing so I also approached the people of York for their views on the proposed scheme. After a day on the streets of York not one of the members of the public I interviewed had anything adverse to say about it.

The aim of the exhibition was to give the people of York a comprehensive overview of the proposed scheme and to register their comments. I believe this was achieved.
