ARGENTINIAN Carlos Marinelli enjoyed mixed luck on his Middlesbrough debut last night as his side lost at Scarborough in the North Riding Senior Cup.
The former Boca Juniors teenager - hailed as "the next Maradona" - scored a superb free-kick in the 1-1 draw, but then missed a spot-kick as the hosts went through 5-3 on penalties.
Middlesbrough, who fielded mainly a second-string side, took a seventh-minute lead, but Colin Addison's Conference side matched them and deserved their 17th minute equaliser, coming via a Jason Gavin own goal.
Gareth Williams' chip evaded 'keeper Marlon Beresford, and Gavin's attempted headed clearance went in.
Middlesbrough's Alun Armstrong wasted two good chances to win it, and so it was left to Seasiders 'keeper Andy Woods to perform heroics in the shoot-out, saving from Marinelli as his side won 5-3 on penalties.
Scarborough meet York City in the final on a date to be arranged.
