A TWO-year-old girl was crushed against a wall by a taxi in an East Coast resort.
And in a separate accident, Coastguard workers stopped a suicidal man's car from rolling off a cliff-top.
Two-year-old Mia Moule, of St John's Walk, Bridlington, was today fighting for her life after suffering serious head injuries when she was pinned against a wall in her pushchair by a taxi.
The red Leyland DAF hackney cab veered into the wall of the Reeds Rains estate agent's premsises at the junction of Station Approach and Quay Road, Bridlington, just after 5pm yesterday.
Mia was today in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of Hull Royal Infirmary. Her mother, Emma, 25, was knocked to the ground and suffered cuts and bruises.
The taxi was being driven by a 39-year-old Bridlington man who was taken to Scarborough Hospital with minor head injuries. Police have put out a desperate plea for all witnesses to call them on 01262 402700.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "At this time it is unclear how the incident happened. Quay Road is one of the main roads into town and many people would have been travelling home from work along there. It is crucial they contact us."
Just after 10pm, another unconnected drama unfolded in the resort as police received a call from a man threatening to drive off a cliff after an argument with his girlfriend.
Humber Coastguard and a helicopter were called in on standby as the man inched his car towards the 200ft drop until it was teetering on the brink with two wheels over the edge.
The 32-year-old man, from Hornsea, phoned from Sands Lane, Bridlington, and police immediately went out to search the area for his vehicle.
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "Police followed him across the cliff top and he stopped on the grass verge close to the edge.
"Police were talking to him but he was going closer to the edge in his car."
A spokesperson for the Humber Coastguard said: "Bridlington coastguard teams went out and assisted by securing the car with ropes.
"A man was still inside."
At 11pm the man was helped out of his car and put into a police car which took him to Bridlington Hospital.
The car was dragged clear by a 4x4 vehicle and moved to a nearby parking area.
