TRAFFIC ground to a halt at Fulford as more than 50 cars in a funeral procession for a baby from a travellers' family made its way to Fulford Cemetery under police escort.
St Oswald's Church, Fulford, was packed yesterday as more than 150 family and friends turned out for the funeral of three-and-a-half-month old Brian Conlon, who died of pneumonia.
The congregation sang the hymns All Things Bright And Beautiful and Loving Shepherd Of Thy Sheep before being addressed by Sister Margery Cooper and hearing a poem read by a chaplain who knew the Conlon family.
Sister Margery said: "It was an Anglican service for the family of a little child, hopefully bringing comfort to his parents, little brother and sister."
Brian will be sadly missed by his parents Marie and Brian, his one-year-old brother Leon and his two-year-old sister, Courtney.
The procession of about 50 vehicles, each one full of mourners, made its way from Clifton to St Oswald's Church, through Bell Farm.
After the service Brian was buried in Fulford Cemetery where a line of floral tributes stretched all the way down a footpath to his grave.
