A 14-year-old schoolboy was today awaiting sentence for a potentially fatal two-knife attack on his piano teacher.

The boy from a village near York pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at Teesside Crown court.

Judge Peter Fox QC then ordered that an alternate charge of attempted murder, faced by the boy, should have a formal not guilty verdict entered in his case.

The attack occurred on February 8 while the boy was having a private music lesson.

Andrew Campbell QC, said it was a very serious and sustained attack in which two knives were used with potentially lethal consequences.

The prosecution had decided to accept the wounding plea after the boy's defence team produced reports from two psychiatrists on the boy.

The prosecution were of the opinion that there was evidence which could lead a jury to conclude there had been an intent to kill.

The boy was remanded into secure local authority accommodation and will return for sentence on September 15.

Neither the boy nor his teacher can be named for legal reasons.
