TINA Turner proved she was simply the best at a concert at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

Dressed in skin-tight black PVC pedal pushers and top, the 62-year-old wowed the thousands of fans who packed the stadium.

Tina Turner

Twenty Four Seven Millennium Tour 2000

Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield

Incredible. That is the only word to describe Tina Turner.

I've never been a huge fan of hers but last night changed that. This diminutive human dynamo powered her way through six costume changes and two hours of pure entertainment.

Lionel Richie kicked off the proceedings appropriately with Hello, and went on to give the waiting crowd a slick hour of nostalgia, bringing us up to date with a track from his latest album.

But as the Sheffield sky darkened the stage was suddenly ablaze with light and there was the main event, dressed in skin-tight black PVC pedal-pushers and top.

With her dancers and fantastic backing band she took us through the early days, cleverly interspersed with old black and white clips of her singing with the Ikettes, showing on the giant video screens. And its amazing, how many people look better when they are 62 than they did when they were 20?

Those famous legs, balanced on six-inch stilettos, which I doubt I could barely totter to the end of Walmgate in, started pumping and barely stopped moving as she hammered out soul, gospel, blues, and all her hits.

Highlights for me included the seductive and earthy Private Dancer, We Don't Need Another Hero, Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love and Try A Little Tenderness - a sax driven duet sung with guitarist and singer John Miles

And just when you thought it was all over she launched into a powerhouse 30-minute set of rock and raunch, ending with her very own Nutbush City Limits and the tour anthem 24/7. And through it all came the sheer pleasure she obviously gets from entertaining, a smile barely left her face.

Fireworks exploded and Tina left the stage - no encore, you really couldn't have asked her to do more. She plans to give up touring at the end of this 63-date tour which ends in San Francisco in November, and this was probably the last time we will see her in the north of England.

I'm so glad I saw this living legend at work. Tina, you were stunning - quite Simply The Best.
