BEHIND the quite exterior of a rural Wolds village lies an e-sex empire providing goods to the far corners of the globe, the Evening Press can reveal today.
Doctors, accountants, oil rig workers, and even a vicar are among the customers buying their sex toys and lingerie from two Weaverthorpe entrepreneurs.
Among the farms and cottages, one bungalow in the sleepy North Yorkshire village near Malton is home to Youtopia, a thriving business providing anything from novelty socks to PVC outfits to punters worldwide.
Run by Paula Adamson and Adrian Goldy, both 50, the company, turning over tens of thousands of pounds annually and with handcuffs as the top-selling item, is the product of years of hard work and research.
The couple have tried their hand at other businesses, including running a pub, but have now found a niche in the sex industry they are keen to exploit.
"We try to be as open as possible about it all," said Adrian, a former postman and chauffeur.
"We are not embarrassed about what we do, we are a business like any other."
Surprisingly perhaps, other villagers do not mind the strange goings on in Youtopia Grange.
Running for three years now, Youtopia, has been revolutionised by the Internet.
"We are taking orders from Israel, America, Belgium and Ireland and all over the UK," said Paula, who has worked in the sex industry for 13 years."
"We get a lot from Scotland and Wales. The customers range from 18 to pensioners - a woman last week sounded well into her eighties."
Although a number of their products are from the "raunchier" end of the market, many of the products are novelty items, mugs, pairs of socks and party games.
"We try to cater for both ends of the market," added Paula.
"There should be something for everybody in our catalogues, but nothing offensive."
Launched at an Erotica show in London three years ago, Youtopia has a network of more than 100 agents nationwide, as well as an ever-expanding client base.
"We are here to stay," said Adrian, who is keen to point out that all transactions are both secure and confidential.
"There are a lot of cowboys giving the industry a bad name. We like to do things differently.
"We are up front and honest about what we do. We have nothing to hide."
Jarrod Fisher, landlord at the Blue Bell Inn in Weaverthorpe, said he didn't know what all the fuss is about.
"It is not a big issue as far as I am concerned," he told the Evening Press.
"I don't think it affects the village. We have been here four months and only heard it mentioned once."
One villager told the Evening Press: "They can do what they like. It is none of our business. They are not doing anyone any harm."
