TOCKWITH, who do not have a team in York Bowls League, showed their potential with a fine win in the Williamson Cup 67-65 over first division club RI Amateurs.

Another fine performance will be required in the next round as they are at home to current league champions Haxby Road.

In division one of the Ideal Standard/Persimmon Homes League, a 6-2 victory for Harrogate at Ainsty allowed them to maintain a five point lead over Stamford Bridge who also took six points at Shipton. Harrogate's game in hand may prove the deciding factor of relegation.

Mick Birkley's Poppleton Road WMC squad, which includes John and Phil Emmerson and Arthur Dunbar, are defending the triples and fours titles in the York competitions.

They required four shots on the last end of the triples game against D Clayden, B Walker and F Maxwell which they made to go through 15-14 but in the fours Clifton's 14-year-old lead Steve Long with Baz Watts, Ken Plowman and Les Redhead kept them to only three shots on the last end and won 18-17.

Entries for the Bert Keech Two Wood Competition will be taken by an executive member up to the start of the competition on Sunday, July 23.
