THANK you very much for covering The Sun's special front page for York in the Evening Press (July 11).

I read your leader on Tuesday and Chris Titley's column (July 12) with special interest.

I would disagree with your leader, which seems to suggest that Britain should enter the Euro based upon purely economic and not political arguments.

My paper argues that scrapping the Pound would plunge us into a united Europe - in which ordinary people would have no say over their lives. Surely our experience with the Common Agricultural Policy has shown us that European red-tape is bad news for ordinary British folk.

And I would point out that your own readers agree with me not you! According to your poll in yesterday's paper Evening Press readers are opposed to the single currency by about a ratio of five to one.

In other words, people in York agree with The Sun and not with Nestl boss Peter Blackburn. This five-to-one ratio exists even in a city where Mr Blackburn has scared workers into thinking the Euro could cost them their jobs.

Mr Titley writes an entertaining and professional column. However, he does me a disservice when he suggests The Sun is run by people in London who do not know York. I grew up in Osbaldwick and Haxby until my family left the city for the delights of Cleethorpes.

Get yer facts right Chris!

Meanwhile, all the best to everybody on The Evening Press.

As you said in your leader, we do need to have a debate about the Euro and this is what it's all about.

David Yelland.
