I SHOULD like to acknowledge the many messages of congratulations for the York Millennium Carnival.
When the council began to develop its Millennium - Count Me In programme of activities we were conscious of the need to create a mix of large and small activities, ongoing projects and one-off celebrations.
There can be no argument but that the carnival delivered the goods as a focal point for all the city to mark the year 2000.
The support of sponsors, community groups, businesses, the armed forces, police and thousands of individual York citizens helped us to provide a spectacle that will be remembered as something special long after the year has ended.
Combined with all the other Count Me In activities such as the Millennium Walks, Science Week, Citizens' Pledge, the Symphony for Bells, Learning City Festival and much more, York has been able to set out for the new Millennium in good style.
Peter Berry,
Assistant Chief Executive,
...I ATTENDED the Parade and Carnival Day in York on Sunday, July 2, along with my mum who is semi-disabled and in a wheelchair. I can honestly say the whole atmosphere was fantastic. The work that must have gone into creating all the fabulous floats, and the enthusiasm of the people involved, was marvellous. A lovely day was had by all.
The street entertainers were very talented. Please congratulate all concerned for a very enjoyable and memorable day. Mrs C S Parish,
Saunters Way,
Riccall, York.
